Celebrities on Google Street View

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Whilst the Google street view cars are not being pulled over by the police, or catching themselves speeding, they seem to be spending their time catching celebrities on street corners!

Victims include Liam Gallagher and “The Stig” from BBC’s Top Gear, as well as a collection of costumed look-alikes. And if you are still searching for the answer to the question “Where’s Wally?” then look no further – you can find him on Google Street View hanging out in Putney High Street. View the full collection at computerweekly.com.

As Google make their merry way around the world, more and more sites are springing up to celebrate (or perhaps mock) some of the stranger photo captures that have been made. Take a look at some of the stranger ones at mashable.com and onmylist.com.

So keep your eyes peeled for those Google Street View cars… you never know when you might be appearing on the Internet!

A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language

What can I say… the title pretty much covers it!

I can’t remember when I was first told about xkcd, but after I got my first “fix” I have been a dedicated fan ever since. The cartoons are clever, funny and often so true that it’s embarassing for all of us techies.

The comic is created by a guy called Randal Munroe, a CNU graduate with a degree in physics who is living out in Massachusetts in the USA. A history of working on robots for NASA might explain a few of the higher level coding jokes, and an apparent penchant for the slightly odd would explain the rest of the comics! In his own words:

In my spare time I climb things, open strange doors, and go to goth clubs dressed as a frat guy so I can stand around and look terribly uncomfortable. At frat parties I do the same thing, but the other way around.

So head over to www.xkcd.com now and start to get your healthy dose of humour. Enjoy!
